This seems a bit odd to us now but in the early 20th century, hotel rooms would become unbearable during the hot summer season. To help make the rooms more bearable, better hotels offered the solution of this fan. Rooms would have these electric fans with a coin box attached. If you deposit five cents the fan would run for one hour. Rather hard to locate now, this piece has been restored (including period appropriate cord) and is in perfect running condition.
I do have the key for the coin box. Fan runs exceeding well and moves a good deal of air. The fan can be turned on and off at any time.
