Vintage General Electric A1-400 Golden Coax 12 Coaxial Speaker 8 ohms 25 watts

Beautiful vintage General Electric A1-400 "Golden Coax" 12 full range coaxial speaker from the mid 1950's. Speaker is 8O and rated for 25 watts.

This model began to appear in catalogs around 1954 and was superseded by the A1-401 in the late'50's. It is a 12 woofer with an alnico magnet and a GE A1-404 cone-type tweeter crossed over with a capacitor in series to block low frequencies. The capacitor is hidden under the spider of the woofer. The tweeter is mounted to a metal plate that serves as an acoustic lens for the woofer.

The tweeter has its own perforated lens cover as seen in photos. Some of the screws that hold the lens cover to the woofer have been replaced- see photos. The speaker is in good condition and sounds excellent.
