Please take the time to review all my other listings after you have looked at this one! I will be listing a broad and diverse range of Vintage Communications and Technology items, related Books, Periodicals and Ephemera... Here is an excellent GECo. Osram Music Magnet 4 battery receiver. Built by General Electric Company Ltd.
This 4 valve TRF radio was introduced in 1929-30. The exterior of the set is quarter sawn oak with a soft wood rear panel. The front appears to be aluminum with a flawless wrinkle paint brown finish. Internally, everything looks pretty much like the day it left the factory!
The two RF stages and the detector stage are housed in big screening cans with the "GECoPHONE" logo. There is a three-ganged variable for tuning which is also shielded. All the valves have good filaments and the transformer shows the proper continuity!Filament voltage is 2V, plate 120V and the a bias battery of 9V. The bias battery was mounted internally with two brackets mounted on the right interior cabinet side. You can see two loose wires with connectors on their ends which would attached to the positive and negative terminals of the grid bias battery. The rest of the supply and functional connections are along the bottom of the back panel.
The controls are mounted on both sides of the cabinet. These include the main tuning control, the reaction control, the LW and MW switch and the variable antenna coupling capacitor. The Osram Music Magnet 4 is a modest looking set when you first look at it. But, when you open the lid you can see immediately what a masterpiece it is! Another brilliant example of UK radio history!
The receiver is about 17.5" wide, 11.5" deep and 8.5 tall. If you have any questions, just send me a quick message!
I will pack this item properly and with great care.
