Antique Vintage GE General Electric Tungar Battery Charger Steampunk Uses

  

I restored this charger about 15 years ago. It is a beautiful example of this particular model.

I removed the main transformer coil because it just was not safe. So, if you want it to work exactly as it did in the day, there are two options. You can have a coil wound for it exactly like the original or use a standard, modern day AC wall transformer. Personally, I had some other interesting thoughts. Replace the rectifier bulb with a standard, low wattage light bulb, add a cord and switch.

You would have a cool looking, steampunk like night light. The light illuminates through the side laminations, top cover, and bottom of the unit. It looks really amazing lit up. Another thought I had was to mount chargeable lithium batteries inside the case and install a few external USB charging ports (with the proper circuitry). Those are just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

Who knows what other ideas creative minds can come up with. The unit is 5 1/2' across the front (at the base).

It stands 7 1/2" tall (to the top of the handle), and is 6 5/8" deep (at the base). The weight of the unit is 7 pounds. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
